Heat Waves

Heat Waves, is my attempt to remind myself and others of the physicality of heat. Heat makes us dizzy, heat confuses us, heat slows us down, heat exhausts us. Heat can make us feel separate from our bodies.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What does heat truly FEEL like in a world where so many of us can retreat indoors to escape it? I want to evoke the physical feelings of heat, and also call attention to how detached we’ve become from it. Our ability to escape the heat and our collective denial of more frequent heat waves both point directly to the way many of us are profoundly disconnected from our planet and the majority of people on it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A detachment from heat is also a detachment from the people who grow, pick, pack, and ship our food, no matter the temperature. A detachment from heat is also a detachment from the labor rights that farm workers often do not have. A detachment from heat is also a detachment from the communities that lack clean water to cool them, communities that are fleeing drought-stricken landscapes, and communities that do not have access to medical care for heat-related illnesses. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔥The point is… The more we ignore the Greenhouse Effect, the more we increase inequity within our own communities and across the globe.🔥⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
